Herman Skolnik, the new Chairman,
received his B.S. in Chemical En9

&^B ' :i He has been associated with Hercules
Powder Company since 1942,
first as a research chemist in separation processes and
terpene chemistry, then as supervisor of the Literature
Research Group, and, since 1954, as Manager of the'
Technical Information Division. He has published many
papers in organic chemistry, chemical engineering, analytical
chemistry, and chemical documentation. His activities
in the Division of Chemical Literature include
chairmanship of the Chemical Documentation, Publications,
Journal Study, and Program Committees and service
as an Alternate Councilor. He is also active in the
Delaware Local Section and has recently been elected
Chairman-Elect of the Section. He is Editor of the Terpene
Section in Chemical Abstracts, and this year was
appointed Editor of Journal of Chemical Documentation,
the new ACS journal which will be playing an extremely
important role for the members of the Division of Chemical

being given to the building
and using of non-conventional type indexes for technical
reports. He is currently Chairman of the local ACS section,
and served as member and Chairman of the Program
Committee. He is also a member of the American Society
for the Advancement of Science and the American Documentation
Dean Gamble continues as Secretary.
He received his B.S. in Agricultural
and Biological Chemistry, and his
Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from
Pennsylvania State University. He
is now with the Miles Laboratory,
M^^id^^ e Inc., in their Department of Science
Information. He is currently serving
as Secretary of the Division and was
Assistant Secretary of the Division and has also been a
member of the Program Committee. He is active in the
local ACS Section, served as Associate Editor of the
Barbara M. Davis, who continues as
Assistant Secretary, is Research
Librarian with the Cabot Corporation.
She received her B.S. in Chemistry
' . from Brown University and her M.S.
in Library Science from Simmons
College. She was a member of the
Division's Membership Committee
for four years. She is also active
in local professional affairs. She was a member of the
Hospitality Committee of the ACS Northeastern Section,
secretary of the Boston Chapter of the Special Libraries
Association and Chairman of Boston's Sci-Tech Group.
She is presently Chairman of the Education Committee
of Boston's SLA Chapter.
Helen F. Ginsberg, the new Treas.-
.. . urer, received her B.A., cum laude,
from Hunter College in 1942. She received
her Ph.D. in 1947 from Ohio
.~ ',: State University, where she had
,/' ^. been an Upjohn Fellow since 1944.
She is Manager of Schering Corpora.

Joining the pharmaceutical
company in 1948 as a research chemist, she became
technical documentalist in 1955. As department head
since 1959, she has established a system for recording
published scientific literature on punched cards for
future machine reference. A member of the American
Documentation Institute, she served on the 1959-1960
ad hoc committee of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers
Association's Steroid Advisory Committee which recommended
revisions in the United States Patent Office's
Steroid Code for punch-card use.
Fred Bassett, the new Councilor, is
Head of the Technical Information
Section of the Upjohn Company. He
received his degree in Chemistry
from St. Norbert's College and a
degree in library science from the
University of Wisconsin. He has
served as Treasurer of the Division
and has also served as Public Relations
Committee Chairman. He is also an active member
of the Special Libraries Association.
