changes in the wording of the questionnaire and authorized
that it be sent out as an insert in a future issue
of Chemical Literature. In order to help members
decide on what committee they might be interested in
working, a brief resume of the purposes and recent
activities of each committee will be prepared by the
chairmen of the respective committees and published
in the issue of Chemical Literature carrying the postcard
insert. The Secretary was instructed to request
these reports (of 200 words or less) from the committee
chairmen; they will be edited by Ben Weil.
These questionnaires will be sent out every two or
three years to the entire membership.
The Chairman of the Members Interests and Activities
Committee also presented some possible designs
of a Division Insignia to be attached to the ACS
badge worn at national meetings. Such insignia would
serve to identify members of the Division to each
other. The Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry
presently follows such a practice. None of the designs
submitted were found acceptable, but a brief
brain-storming session by those present resulted in a
design acceptable by all.

of Papers delivered before the Division of Chemical
Literature" was considered, and it was felt that this
publication would be more useful if it were brought
up to date as of the first issue of Journal of Chemical
The Editor of the Journal of Chemical Documentation
reported that he had sufficient papers submitted
to the Journal to publish three issues in 1961, rather
than the two originally planned This publication will
become a quarterly in 1962. The original publication
schedule was January, April, July, and October, but
in order to tie the Journal in more effectively with
ACS meeting schedules and program deadlines, it will
be slowly changed to February, May, August, and
November. The Editor felt that many papers submitted
for consideration were poorly written and badly
illustrated. It was suggested that ACS Bulletin 8
"Suggestions on How to Write, Present and Illustrate
a Technical Paper" be sent to all those presenting
papers before the Division. Every paper received is
sent to three reviewers; the Editor presently uses
aboutfifteen Division members as reviewers. He has
not as yet felt a need for an advisory committee.
It was agreed to continue the Photocopy Service,
in light of three factors: (1) the delay in publication
of papers in Journal of Chemical Documentation (ranging
from three months to one year, depending on the
