BYLAWS OF THE DIVISION OF CHEMICAL LITERATURE
As Approved by the Division and by the ACS
1954, 1957, 1959, 1970
NAME AND OBJECT
Section 1. The name of this organization shall be
"The Division of Chemical Literature of the
American Chemical Society," hereinafter called the
"Division" and the "Society," respectively.
Section 2. The objects of this Division shall be
those of the Society as they apply to chemical literature,
which is regarded as including the study,
preparation, collection, recording, processing,
conserving, reporduction, organization, exchange,
dissemination, and assembly for use of chemical
MEMBERS AND AFFILIATES
Section 1. Membership in this Division shall be
open to all members of the Society who indicate
their wish to join the Division and who pay the
annual dues, hereinafter called "Members." Application
for membership shall be sent to the
Treasurer of the Division.
Section 2. A nonchemist or nonchemical engineer,
who accordingly cannot be a member of the Society
but who wishes to participate in the activities of
this Division, may do so as a Division Affiliate,
hereinafter called "Affiliate." As long as they
pay annual dues, Affiliates shall have all the
privileges of membership in the Division except
those of voting and holding office.
Section 3. Members and Affiliates shall have the

by submitting his resignation, in writing, to the

remain in good standing only so long as their dues

exceed $3.00 per year.
Section 3. Affiliates. Dues for Affiliates shall
exceed the dues for Members by at least $1.00 per
year and shall be at least $2.00 per year, except
that a regularly matriculated student specializing
in chemistry or chemical engineering who has not
taken a baccalaureate degree in chemistry or chemical
engineering may be accepted as an Affiliate
on payment of annual dues of $1.00.
Section 1. The officers of the Division shall be
Members and shall consist of:
Division Councilors (whatever number is permitted
to the Division by the Society)
Division Alternate Councilors (whatever number
is permitted to the Division by the
Section 2. Duties of Officers.
(a) The duties of the Chairman shall be to
preside at meetings of the Division and of the
Executive Committee; to carry into effect the decisions
of that committee and of the Division; to
appoint committees; and to assume the other responsibilities
usually associated with that office.
(b) The duties of the Chairman-Elect shall
be to perform the duties of the Chairman in the
latter's absence; to assemble and present to the
Executive Committee at its Fall meeting a budget
for the Division for the ensuing year; and to be
responsible for the program of the Division.
(c) In the absence of both the Chairman
and the Chairman-Elect, the Secretary shall act

of the proceedings of the Division and of the
Executive Committee; to maintain a list of Members
and Affiliates; to send or cause to be sent
to Members and Affiliates such notices and other

in the Constitution and Bylaws of the Society.
