sion, the Committee decided that we should experiment
with meeting at an ACS Conference Center and that we
will plan a conference instead of participating in the
ACS national meeting at Dallas in the spring of 1973.

Dr. Maizell brought up the question of Divisional
participation in ACS regional meetings. Dr. Petrarca
was asked to represent DCL on Thursday at the meeting
of a coordinating group for regional meetings.
Miss Patricia McDonnell, who is on leave of
absence as Division Treasurer because of an assignment
with The World Intellectual Property Organization
in Geneva, Switzerland, was present at the meeting and
asked the Division to consider an invitation to cooperate
with WIPO in organizing an International Conference on
Patent Information Retrieval. She distributed a written
statement of the purpose of the conference, the proposed
program, and other tentative plans. Tentative dates for
the conference have been set for October 14 to 18, 1973,
but investigations as to possible conflicts with other
meetings are still going on. Munich and Nice are being
considered as possible sites for the meeting. The Executive
Committee passed a motion made by Stephen
Tauber to the effect that we appoint one person to assist
WIPO in disseminating information about the conference
and soliciting funds from the federal government and
other sources for support of travel to the conference.
In response to a third invitation from the Council
of Communication Societies, the Executive Committee
decided that membership is not desired in the Council.
Dr. Maizell will attend a meeting of the ACS Committee
on Chemical Safety to discuss the coordination of its
activities with related activities in DCL.
As the final item of new business, Dr. Maizell
gave a preliminary report on the results of the recent
survey of salaries of DCL members.

Dr. Maizell read Dr. Lee Starker's report of
the Council meeting held on Tuesday morning. The
proposed creation of a probationary division of professional
relations was voted down. The Council referred
to the Committee on Divisional Activities for clarification
and further discussion a petition that would provide
increased funds for divisions by allowing them to share
in revenues from national meeting registration fees.
The Council Policy Committee was asked to study further
a petition calling for increased representation on
the Council for divisions and to report on the matter
at the fall 1972 Council meeting.
