6 7CHEMICAL LITERATURE Fall 1972
The minutes of the preceding business meeting had
been printed in the spring issue of Chemical Literature and
were, therefore, not read at this meeting. The Chairman
called for acceptance of the minutes and the motion was
approved. Dr. Tauber encouraged members to participate
in the activities of the Division and asked that those interested
contact him or the appropriate Committee Chairmen
noted in Chemical Literature.Treasurer's Report
The Treasurer's report was distributed to attendees.
It was noted that the report covers less than three months
and that Chemical Literature represents the largest expense.
The costs for Chemical Literature are not critical,
but the Editor will be paying particular attention to keeping
costs down during the next year. The deficit was questioned
from the floor. The Chairman noted that all income wasTRANSLATIONS

a written expense report was available on Chemical Literature
and that a first class mailing was made due to unavoidable
delays. Dr. Petrarca asked the audience if anyone
had not yet received Chemical Literature. Four of
those present had not yet received the latest issue.
Councillors' ReportDr. Helen Ginsberg noted that:
1. The request for additional money (as a result of
survey results) was approved. Not less than $10 (tax deductible)
is to be contributed for professional enhancement.
Although voluntary, it is hoped that a half to one million
dollars will be raised. It was noted that "professional enhancement"
was not well defined at this time.
2. Most of the ACS operations will be moved to
Columbus to cut costs.
3. Nominations for President-Elect had been accepted.
The candidates will be Dr. Milton Harris, Dr.
Henry Hill and Dr. S. Friedman (nominated by petition).
4. The by-law change on election of Councillors
was voted down but other changes were approved.
5. The Publication Committee recommended an increase
of dues allotment to C&E News from $3 to $5 per
year. Dr. Carlos Bowman noted that ACS membership requirements
will be broadened and that there is a $350, 000
dues deficit. Chemical and Engineering News is about
$500, 000 in the red and they will have to cut costs, in
addition to receiving more money from dues.
Program Committee ReportDr. A. E. Petrarca summarized plans for future DCL

1973 spring meeting - Columbus, Ohio
Instead of having a session at the national ACS meeting
in Dallas, DCL has decided to have a special conference
in Columbus, Ohio at the Ohio State Center for Tomorrow -
March 14 through 17. The general topic will be information
problems-what has been solved and future plans. An attempt
will be made to have good representation from various
organizations such as information centers, small industry,
suppliers, the Federal Government, etc.
1973 fall meeting - Chicago
No definite plans have been made, but suggestions
include trends in evolving literature, the communication of
chemical information to the public, and evaluative and comparative
studies of information services and tools. It was_
