Reports on Liaison with Other Societies
The Chairman introduced Judy Leondar as the ASIS
liaison representative to the Division of Chemical Literature.
It was noted that the first regional meeting of ASIS would be
held May 19 to 21, 1973 and that the theme would be cost
reduction and information. A flier giving further details
was circulated. It was also noted that an October meeting
to be held in Washington (the national meeting) would deal
with the topic "A World of Information." Further details
may be obtained from the ASIS headquarters in Washington.
SLA - Friedenstein
Dr. Hanna Friedenstein was introduced as the S LA
liaison representative to Division of Chemical Literature.
Dr. A. E. Petrarca mentioned the problem of meeting conflicts
that had occurred last year and noted that this was
one area where perhaps the liaison representatives could
be of help. Dr. Robert Maizell suggested the specific dates
of further meetings and hopefully the programs as well
could be exchanged by the SLA, ASIS, and DCL, for publication
in the respective News Letters and/or journals. The
Chairman directed Dr. Petrarca, as Program Chairman,
to send information on all DCL's future programs to the
SLA and ASIS liaison representatives on a regular basis.
He also requested that the SLA and ASIS representatives
reciprocate by sending details of their meetings to Dr.
James Rush, the Editor of Chemical Literature.
Documentation Abstracts - Conrad
Dr. Conrad was unable to attend the meeting but had
submitted a brief report via telephone. Documentation Abstracts
is not yet back on schedule. The December, 1971
issue (with index) was expected to be in the mail within one
week. Dr. Stephen Tauber suggested that consideration be
given to issuing the index separately. The April issue is
scheduled for mailing in May. A new managing editor, Mrs.
Judith Duville, has been assigned. The next Board meeting
will be held in New York City on April 24. One of the first
topics would be viability for '72.
Measurement & Automation Control Technical Advisory
Board - Maizell
Dr. Maizell asked that a substitute be appointed as
this activity does not represent one of his interests. Herman
Skolnik commented on the activities of the Measurement
& Automation Control Technical Advisory Board and
suggested that the ACS drop activity for lack of enthusiasm.
No action was taken on this subject.
