A News Service letter from Mrs. Smith was
noted by the Chairman. This letter was turned
over to the Program Chairman for consideration
with respect to future meetings. Bob Maizell
recommended that several significant papers
submitted for the next meeting (Columbus) should
be brought to the attention of the press for
publicity purposes.
After a general discussion on the topic of
publicity, Bob Maizell agreed to serve on an ad
hoc committee with Jim Rush and Bruno Vasta.
The committee will look into ways in which DCL
might get more publicity for its sessions.
Division interview
No Division Interview was requested at this
mee t i ng.
ues t i o n a i re
Bob Maizell noted that the Rubber Chemistry
Division Ihad recently sent out a questionnaire
dealing with what that Division should be doing.
He asked if DCL also should be considering a
questionnaire. After some discussion, it was
decided that a questionnaire would be initiated.
Clarles Granite volunteered to coordinate this
activity.
Questions concerning Chemical Literature,
increase in dues, etc., were suggested. The
following schedule was decided on:
1. All input (questions for the
questionnaire) should be submitted
to Charles Granito by
September 20.2. A draft of the questionnaire
will be sent to the Executive
Committee by October 2.
3. Replies are to be returned to
Charles Granito by October 16.
4. Final version of the questionnaire
will be mailed to all
members of DCL by November 3.
5. Response by November 30 will
be requested.
Chemical Information Specialist
Herman Skolnik noted that the Clearing House
has no category for Chemical Information Specialist.
Bob Maizell noted that the annual ACS salary
survey should also include the category "Chemical
Information Specialist". It was the concensus of
the attendees that this was unsatisfactory and Jim
Rush and Herman Skolnik will independently write
to Al Winstead's office about this.
Membership Committee
Stuart Kaback noted that we are not receiving
up-to-date information on membership. Every
division should be given the most up-to-date
information available just prior to national
meetings. The divisions should also be routinely
notified of new members. Jim Rush noted that he
keeps a separate list for Chemical Literature and
that it does not match the recent ACS list sent
out. Stuart noted that he had written to the ACS
concerning this matter and had received a reply
stating that it would be looked into. Stuart
agreed to follow up on this with ACS headquarters
again.193 Maplewood Ave., Maplewood, N.J. 07040 - (201) 763-0606
