Mary H. Reslock,
During 1978 Gabrielle S. Revesz will be serving the Division of
Chemical Information in two capacities-Chairman-elect and Program
Chairman. Mrs. Revesz is well-suited to both of these positions. She
brings with her the wisdom gained through a wide and varied career in
chemistry, information science, and publications management. She is
currently Vice-President of Publications for the Institute for Scientific
Information. Born in Budapest, Hungary, Mrs. Revesz received her undergraduate
education at the University of Zurich. She has an M.A. Degree
in Chemistry from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Mrs. Revesz's
contributions to the information field have won her a place in Who's Who
of Women and Who's Who In the East. She has also served the Division as
a past editor of the Bulletin.
Barbara G. Prewitt
Mr. Spann received his B.S. in Chemistry at Howard University and his
M.S. in Chemistry/Information Science and Technology at the American
University, where he is now a Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry/Computer
Systems. A part of his doctoral program included a Visiting Research
Fellowship at Princeton University's Computer Graphics Laboratory.
Mr. Spann had been with the Food and Drug Administration for over
ten years, being involved in chemical information systems and as Chief,
Scientific Information Systems Design Branch. He is presently with
Specialized Information Services of the National Library of Medicine. His
responsibilities include: operational design, technical evaluation, substructure
search enhancements, computer-assisted instruction software
development, and user training associated with NLM's CHEMLINE system.
Mr. Spann has served the ACS Division of Chemical Information as
Nominating Committee Chairman. He has published in the Journal of
Chemical Documentation and presented papers before the Division at
national and regional meetings. Mr. Spann is also a member of the
American Society for Information Science and the Association for
Mary H. Reslock received a B.S. degree in chemistry and languages
from Michigan Technological University, an MSLS (Library Science) from
the University of Michigan. She has been employed by the Dow Chemical
Company as a research logician in the Computations Research laboratory
where she worked on the development of the Dow Wiswesser Line
Notation files and on programs for handling chemical structure; in the
Chemical Library as Manager (1973-77); in Central Report Index,
proprietary research information, as Manager (1975-77); and presently
as Research Specialist in the information area.
She is a member of ACS, Divisions of Chemical Information and of
Computers in Chemistry. In the former, she was elected to two terms as
Secretary, chairman-elect 1977, and will serve as Chairman in
1978. Other professional memberships include American Association for
the Advancement of Science, American Society for Information Science,
Special Libraries Association, Sigma Xi, Chemical Notation Association.
She is currently serving on the advisory board of the Grace A. Dow
Memorial Library (public) in Midland, Michigan. She has presented
papers at national SLA and CHIF meetings, has published in Journal of
Chemical Documentation, and was a collaborating author of The Wiswesser
Line Formula Notation, ed. 2, 1968. She has worked also with the
CNA Rules Committee and Council on the 1976 third edition of the same

Mrs. Prewitt is employed by the Rohm and Haas Company as a
Technical Librarian in the Research Division. Previously, she held positions
as Information Chemist, Assistant to the Toxicologist, and Research
She obtained a B.S. (cum laude) in Chemistry at Ursinus College and an
M.S. in Information Science from Drexel University.
In addition to the ACS, she is a member of ASIS, SLA, MLA, Iota Sigma
Pi, and Beta Phi Mu. She served as secretary of the Delaware Valley
Chapter of ASIS. Barbara has also served on the Division's Long Range
