REPORT OF THE CHAIRMAN
Thanks to Val Metanomski and his Program Committee, the New York meeting may be our biggest ever. We
hope to see you there.
A recent article in C&EN (May 18, p. 62) spelled out subsidy allotments from ACS to the divisions, namely three
equal parts based on (1) divisional member counts (as of July 1), (2) divisional preference indication on national
meeting registration, and (3) attendance at divisional technical sessions at national meetings. Therefore, there
are at least 3 things CINF members can do to aid the financial stability of the Division.
-maintain membership in CINF and recruit divisional
members and ACS National Affiliates.
-check the CINF divisional preference box on your national
meeting registration. If your primary reason for attending is
CINF, please mark CINF "1". If CINF is your only reason for
attending, please check CINF only.
-while at a national meeting, please attend as many CiNF
sessions as possible.
The latest word I have from ACS is that all of our functions (except one or two joint functions) will be in the
Warwick Hotel (54th and 6th-diagonally across from the Hilton, which is the registration and exposition hotel).
In addition to the technical program which appears elsewhere in this Bulletin, I call your attention to the following:
Sun., Aug. 23, 1-2 p.m. Program Committee Meeting (contact
V. Metanomski if you wish to attend)
Mon., Aug 24, 12-2 p.m. Subdivision of Chemistry and the Law
Tues., Aug. 25, 12-2 p.m. CINF Luncheon; Speaker: Everett
Tues., Aug. 25, 4-5 p.m. CINF Business Meeting
Tues., Aug. 25, 5-6 p.m. CINF Social Hour
Please order Luncheon tickets early, especially for the Monday Luncheon.
Both CINF and ACS are promoting increased divisional participation in local and regional ACS meetings. Our
CINF coordinator is Ivan Pascal, Liaison Chairman. Please contact him if interested.
I have appointed Bruno Vasta chairman of the newly re-formed Long Range Planning Committee. He and his
committee will be working with several elements of the Division, especially Program and Liaison.
It has been a pleasure working with the Chemistry and the Law Subdivision and I look forward to our continuing
relationship. Regardless of how petitions of independence workout, I'd like Subdivision members to "feel at
home" in CINF.
Be on the lookout for a separate mailing from CHEMTECH. It's an offer of a special price reduction for
CHEMTECH subscriptions to Information Division members."
Please note Val Metanomski's call for general papers. See you in New York.
