The San Diego National Meeting has come and gone; and we will soon all be in Washington. The Division
has been very busy since San Diego.
I am pleased to tell you that we are among other ACS Division finalists for the ChemLuminary award. Your
Executive Committee, Committee Chairs, and others are helping to put together a poster highlighting all of the
CINF Division's out reach events for the past year. This poster will be displayed along with other finalists'
posters prior to the Tuesday evening ChemLuminary festivities where the winners will be announced. It is the
hard work of many in the Division that have made our outreach activities possible. And it is these activities that
have helped us make it to the finals. Congratulations to the Division on making it to the finals!
In San Diego at our long range planning meeting on Saturday morning we focused on reaching out to new
members and other societies to sponsor joint activities. We believe this to be more in line with the new mission
statement we crafted in 2004; and that this mission statement helps to meet the ACS objectives related to
biology and other sciences at the interface of chemistry, and reaching out to new members to grow the Society.
For those of you unfamiliar with our new mission statement I provide it for your review.
CINF Mission Statement
We are committed to providing leadership and an environment for the exchange of expertise among the
producers and users of information in chemistry and related disciplines worldwide through high quality
programs and through outreach, opportunities for career development, and recognition of excellence.
I hope that many of you will join your Executive Committee and Committee Chairs and members in
Washington for our Long Range Planning Meeting and Committee meetings on Saturday morning in the
Washington Convention Center. Your Division can use your assistance and input to ensure that we remain
strong and meet your needs as a Division member.
Thanks for your continued support this past year and I look forward to seeing you in Washington. If you are
new to the Division, please don't hesitate to stop me or any of the Division Executives to say hi, introduce
yourself, and tell us how the Division can better serve you.
I look forward to seeing you in Washington! Eileen Shanbrom, Division Chair firstname.lastname@example.org
