Description

Report presenting a theoretical analysis of a thin, constant pressure, viscous mixing layer separated from a solid surface by an enclosed region of low-velocity air. A physical model related to the law of conservation of energy is applied to laminar separations in compressible flow for various Prandtl numbers, including consideration of the case where air is injected into the separate region. Results regarding a comparison with results for laminar boundary layers, computational checks and extensions of analysis, and some practical aspects of gas injection are provided.
