LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
I would like to welcome Dr. Joseph Magee as the new assistant editor of the Chemical Information Bulletin (CIB). Joe
joined the permanent staff of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado in 1986 after
completing doctoral studies (Rice University, 1983) and two post doctorate appointments. Recently, Joe's research efforts at
NIST have focused on thermodynamic and transport properties of greener refrigerants, greener solvents, and biologically
active proteins. Joe's interests in the area of scientific publishing include appointments as an associate editor of the ACS'
Journal of Chemical and Engineering Data, as a division representative to the NIST Editorial Review Board, and as a
member of the editorial advisory boards for the Thermodynamics Research Center's Tables Project and the Journal of
Chemical and Engineering Data. I look forward to working with Joe in making the Bulletin a more interesting and valued
publication. Joe can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have some good news for the CIB subscribers in the United States. At the ACS Spring National Meeting in Atlanta, the
CINF Executive Committee approved mailing of CIB to U.S. subscribers to be done by First Class Mail (until now, the
issues were mailed by Third Class Mail and they sometimes arrived after the national meeting).
We have also made a decision to do a Survey about the Bulletin, to find out how people are using it and what they would
like to see in it in the future. Please help us make CIB a better and more interesting publication by responding to the survey.
You can do that by answering the questions found on p. 5 of this issue and mailing the form back to us, or you can fill it out
online at www.acscinf.org.

LETTER FROM THE PUBLICATIONS COMMITTEE
It has been an exciting and busy time this year since I took on the duties as Chair of the Publications Committee. I extend
sincere thanks to the wonderful members of the committee who made everything flow smoothly even during the occasional
crisis. Special thanks to Svetla Baykoucheva who single-handedly produced her first issue of the Chemical Information
Bulletin! The CINF E-News received an ISSN this year. Rick Williams, CINF webmaster, has been busy improving the
Committee Vacancies (All positions are for two year terms):
* We are looking for several people to serve as at-large members of the committee. These positions would assist the
Publications Officers with their duties while gaining valuable experience, and also participate fully in setting goals
and objectives of the publications under the auspices of the Publications Committee.
* Helen Yun is completing her term as Business Manager. The business manager is responsible for solicit
advertisements for the CIB, ensure timely receipt of advertising copy, issue and track invoices to advertisers and
subscribers, and handle accounting and budget issues. Helen has done an excellent job and we will miss her greatly!
* Assistant Business Manager (currently vacant). Duties are in a support capacity to the Business Manager.
If you are interested in any of the vacancies, please contact Beth Thomsett-Scott (email@example.com or 940-369-6437).
For more information see Section 3.2.14 at http://acscinf.org/docs/publications/Procedures/procedures_manual.pdf
