I would like to thank Dr. Kathleen Swigger, the chair of my dissertation
committee, for the many hours of discussion of my research topic and her guidance
throughout the research and writing of the dissertation. I would like to thank both Dr.
Swigger and Dr. Robert Brazile for selecting me to work on the Fund for the
Improvement of Secondary Education (FIPSE) research project, from which my
research study developed. An extended thanks to my other committee members, Dr.
Samantha Hastings for the many hallway conversations, and Dr. Ann Jordan for
remaining on my committee over the years.
I would like to acknowledge the inspiration for all of my educational pursuits and
love of learning, my parents, Rudolph F. Reyna and Josephine Reyna. For their
support and guidance I will always be thankful. And, Dr. Donald Cleveland, Program
Director of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program, for accepting me into the program and
giving me the opportunity.
I would like to thank my FIPSE project teammates, Alan Livingston, Victor Lopez,
and Viola Osborn for their insights and dedication to the research goals. A special
thanks to Alan Livingston. His friendship, humor and motivational talks were invaluable.
I would not have gotten through the doctoral program without him.
