A 4]-year-old Fort Worth' an, Lloyd C. Crum, is
taken to arraignment before United States
Commissioner Van Orden on charges of attempting
to extort 29-hundred dollars from a Weatherford
feed supply dealer. Drum, a former private
detective, is accused of writing two extortion
letters to J. W. Foster of Weatherford in which
he threatened to "cut all of you in half" with a
machine gun if the money wasn't paid. Crum is
taken from city jail to the federal courthouse by
Detectives N... Walker and Dave. G. Latham.
During the arraignment, where photographs were
prohibited, federal agents testified that the
first letter was mailed from Cnicago directing
that the money be placed in a mail box just off
the Weatherford Highway near Cherry Lane. The
agents say the instructions were followed, that
no one cane to get the money.
