This is Ron Marcello interviewing Mr. Sterling Edwards
for the North Texas State University Oral History
Collection. The interview is taking place on May 9,
1974, in Dallas, Texas. I am interviewing Mr. Edwards
in order to get his reminiscences and experiences
and impressions while he was at Hickam Field during
the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7,
1941.
To begin this interview Mr. Edwards, very briefly
give me a biographical sketch of yourself. In other
words, tell me where you were born, when you were born,
your education--things of that nature.
I was born in New York in . . . I've lived down here
most of my life, Ron. I've worked in the oil fields,
and that's been just about my line of work.
When were you born?
June 20, 1920.
How did you get to Texas from New York?
My uncle had an oil lease out here in Jack County,
