Overlying the Pennsylvanian formations in parts of the district are unconsolidated sand, gravel, and clay, which in part belong to the Gerty sand, a deposit in an abandoned Quaternary (?) river channel. Other unconsolidated deposits include sand on stream terraces and Recent alluvium.
