necessary, however.
169. The channel would cross several faults northeast of Little
Caney Creek (plate 26). Permeable fault-zone materials should not be
present; however, narrow zones of relatively softer clays may be present
along the faults.
170. Foundation conditions at all three pump station locations
would be essentially the same, and no problems are anticipated in view
of the high bearing strengths of the deposits.
Lavon Terminal Transmission Channel
Description
171. This channel would serve to convey water from the Cypress
Creek and Sulphur River Basins to the Trinity River Basin. Specifically,
water would be pumped from Cooper Reservoir and transmitted in a generally
southwestward direction over a distance of about 68 miles to Lavon Terminal
near the East Fork of Trinity River (plate 1).
172. The Cooper-Lavon Pump Station, located just south of Cooper
Reservoir about 8 miles east of Commerce in Hopkins County, would lift
water from Cooper Reservoir to an elevation of 480 (plate 28). From
this point the water would flow by gravity for about 7 miles through a
channel having an assumed gradient of 1 ft in 10,000 ft and an assumed
depth of flow of 10 ft. A second lift of 53 ft would be required near
Texas Highway 11 at the proposed County Line Pump Station. Gravity flow
through an open channel would then occur for about 15 miles to the proposed
Sulphur Pump Station located just north of the settlement of Jacobia
(plate 29). A lift of 95 ft would be required at this point to raise the
water to an elevation at which it could flow across the drainage divide.
Since the drainage divide forms the boundary of the NOD, no attention was
given to the portion of the project item lying southwest of this point.
