Abstract: The new 4.0 suite of Creative Commons licenses was released in January 2014. The licenses provide more robust legal clarity in regard to the release of privacy and moral rights. They further afford easier means of providing attribution and guaranteeing a licensor's preferential usage in perpetuity. Also, with the advent of social media, wikis, lecture capture, and other Web 2.0 tools being utilized in pedagogy, it is imperative that individuals understand the legal pitfalls that are possible using such tools. These pitfalls might include privacy violations and defamation. Web 3.0 is on the way and also requires one to navigate carefully. In this Tech Talk presentation, Kris Helge, Scholarly Communications Librarian, will discuss the new 4.0 Creative Commons licenses, their benefits, how to create them, and various legal pitfalls to avoid in the digital world of pedagogy.
