The big item of news in this issue of MiniBitS is the Conclave to be
held over the Labor Day week-end in Burbank. California. The dates are
from Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2. Additional notice
of this event will be in the mail to you from the California Conclave
Commitee with further information and reservation cards for the Burbank
Airport Hilton Hotel. Many exciting and interesting events are being
planned for the meeting, but I will not tell you about it now and steal the
thunder of the Committee members who have been working so hard on
this event. I will tell you, however, that Mr. Louis Bondy of London, Mr.
Ian Macdonald of Scotland and Mrs. Irene Winterstein of Switzerland have
all indicated that they are coming. For now, the important thing is reserve
the date and try to make plans to be there. It is estimated that there will
be approximately 100 attendees.
It is not too early to start thinking about items for the agenda. One of
the chief things that will be discussed is a reorganization of our structure.
It is two years since we organized, and it is time to take stock of where we
are to-day and what direction we will take in the future. Ever since its
inception, your Chairman has served the Miniature Book Society as a
"One-Man operation" who filled just about every position there is, i.e., the
Secretary, Treasurer, Editor of the MiniBitS; maintained membership
records, and was responsible for the Miniature Book Auction in addition
to serving as Chairman of The Board of Governors.
This was fine for as long as we were a small intimate group. We now
number well over 300 members and the work-load has increased
tremendously. It is now time to involve more individuals in sharing the
work of the Society. Your Chairman will be relinquishing his position at the
end of this term of office by mandate. This is good. The M.B.S should have
