Dear Fellow Missourians:
The citizens of Missouri have a long and distinguished history of serving
our country in its time of need. Now we are working hard to see that Fort
Leonard Wood continues its vital military missions well into the next century.
This booklet summarizes the contribution Fort Leonard Wood makes to the
State of Missouri, and it outlines the military value of the installation to the
Department of Defense.
We hope the information contained herein proves valuable to the Base
Realignment and Closure Commission, the federal commission that will make
recommendations to President Clinton as part of the downsizing of the military,
and to the residents of Missouri who want to learn more about the importance of
Fort Leonard Wood.
The centerpiece of Fort Leonard Wood is the U.S. Army Engineer Center,
a magnificent, state-of-the-art facility that prepares engineers for the
battlefield scenarios of the future. In addition, the installation serves a
host of other military missions and still has a tremendous capacity to expand.
