1. State the primary purpose(s) of the facility/equipment.
The Warfare Assessment Laboratory (WAL) is designed as the single site integration
facility for the analysis of weapon and combat system performance, reliability,
maintainability, and accessibility. The WAL is a 48,460 sq ft secure (SECRET and
above) facility with internal vaults and special access spaces configurable for conferences
and/or work centers supported by secure LAN with satellite/landline telecommunications.
It physically collocates the analysis teams, electronically supports the analysis tools, and
provides connectivity (telemetry, satellite voice, fiber optic land lines, etc.) to every
major range facility utilized by the U.S. Navy, as well as ranges operated by the other
services. It allows near real time analysis of range and shipboard data and eliminates
the vast majority of travel associated with analysis efforts in the past.
The WAL, because of its secure telecommunications and large screen display
capabilities, supports exercise control and war gaming from the Fleet staff perspective.
It supports up to 200 personnel in its theater complex in this configuration, and provides
real time communications support to the exercise director or Fleet staff.
The computer and display resources of the WAL support modeling and simulation of
weapons systems and associated logistics support functions and activities. Complex
model development of environmental functions requiring state-of-the-art computational
equipment can be performed in support of flight analysis or radar propagation.
Secure facilities are provided for special programs with several special access spaces
available for conferences and/or work teams to accommodate special programs. In
addition, areas are provided for the STILO function.
2. Indicate whether the facility/equipment is portable, moveable or fixed as defined by
paragraph 6, page 12 of this data call.
The facility is fixed in location. The facility equipment and technical support
