The song was written in the 1960s but was rediscovered by Binodini herself, much to her own surprise in 2001 at the time of the Great June Uprising. It is now the main anthem to commemorate the tragedy that resulted in the death of 18 people. This uprising that was against the threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur leading to the death of 18 people, was also when MK Binodini Devi famously returned her Padma Shri, the National Honor she received from the President of India in 1976. This is part of the Modern Endangered Archives Program (MEAP) Project 7-0178 "Digitizing the Maharani Binodini Archive of Manipur".
