Abstract: As the field of language documentation explores collaborative and community-based methods, the documentation process increasingly prioritizes language revitalization—efforts to increase and maintain the use of the language and to support inter-generational transmission of linguistic and cultural knowledge. This trend is emerging in language archives, with collections created by language community members and greater emphasis on accessibility of archival material. This paper examines how community-based archiving initiatives reflect language revitalization goals through a case study of an archival collection created by community members engaged in revitalization efforts. Understanding the decision-making and intentions behind such collections provides insight and guidance for future community-based archiving projects.
