Abstract: The article reports on a September 16, 1772 letter written by French-born fan and miniature painter Francis Louis Goupy, generally referred to as Louis Goupy, notable for his work done while residing in London, England during the first half of the eighteenth century. The letter was addressed to Louis' brother Charles, also a fan painter, and discussed a business dispute and family news. Some of the topics considered include the Goupy family's membership in the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers guild, an overview of fan use in the 18th century, antiquary George Vertue, and Louis' tutoring of his nephew and artist Joseph Goupy.
