SUBJECT: BRACE Comments
Purposes. The purposes of this letter are to discuss ramifications of the current
BRAC regarding Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) and to make
recommendations for your consideration for actions that will ensure the long-term
viability of the Proving Ground and be best for Marylanders, our Nation and its
I apologize for the quickness of putting this note together and also for any
unintended lapses in spelling or logic. I had intended on mailing it to you next
week, but I read in the newspaper (The Daily Times) that BRAC Commission
folks will meet with you all next week and I thought that there might be something
of importance in all these "ramblings" to pass on to the BRAC Commission folks
as they begin their tours of various bases and posts.
It becomes all the more important for you all there to pass on your observations
and requests to the BRAC Commission right up front next week, I think, because
I suspect that the affected folks (the Ordnance Corps folks) at APG might well
have been given their "marching orders" by Department of Army folks to muzzle
their comments and to "fall in" with the Pentagon's recommendations. I certainly
don't know that to be a fact today, but it is what happened back in 1993 (see d6j
I am a 30-year Army veteran, an Ordnance Corps Officer, commissioned
at APG and with service there for several years over the thirty years of
service. Whether that prejudices me or makes me obsolete is unclear to
me, but I don't think it does.
