Description

This is a conversation primarily with Mr. Akhlaque. After recording some conversations in Rāmpūr village, the researcher learns the language of the Muslims to be Bhojpuri and almost the same as that of the Hindu population, unlike that in Fatehpūr. He then moves near to Mr. Akhlaque to enquire about this. Mr. Jameel then joins the conversation and adds his opinion on the ongoing topic.

Notes

Mr. Akhlaque — a school friend of Saeeduz Zafar Ali — hails from Fatehpūr village, but after marriage, shifts to his wife’s home in the Rāmpūr village. He is a native Azamgarhi speaker but has also become fluent in Bhojpuri after shifting to Rāmpūr. This recording is an outcome of a dialect survey undertaken by Maaz and assisted by his uncle Saeeduz Zafar in the north-eastern part of the Maū district to determine the eastern extent of Azamgarhi. Rāmpūr is the first village in the region (on going west to east from Azamgarh) where Muslims and Hindus speak the same language — Bhojpuri.

This collection includes audio and video recordings of texts; transcriptions, translations, interlinear glossing, and analyses of selected texts; digitized copies of fieldwork notes and photographs documenting fieldwork and other events.
