  • Display Note: Abstract: The University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries received a TSLAC Impact Grant to purchase e-book readers to circulate to students purchasing digital textbooks. This would give those who wish to use digital textbooks, but cannot afford to purchase e-readers, a way to access and utilize this electronic information. Results of the program will include data to measure the effectiveness of different types of e-readers and the level of need for e-readers on campus. The UNT bookstore offers digital textbooks for purchase, but not many students have used this service. Being concerned with access to information, the library is interested to determine whether this is due to an actual lack of preference for these materials, or a lack of the technology needed. As many other academic libraries are also asked to purchase textbooks, and are interested in circulating technology, the results of this grant-funded project will provide a jumping-off point for others. It will show, in a case study, multiple replicable aspects: how to catalog and circulate technology, how to market a new service, how to collaborate with other units on campus, and how digital textbook usage compares to general e-book usage. Evaluation methodology includes a pre- and post-test outcomes-based survey by students using the technology, and analysis of usage statistics. The project runs from January to May and this poster includes text, timeline, graphs, photos of marketing materials, and sample survey questions.
