Dear Admiral Gehman,
My name is David Swann. I'm a pastor of the largest attended church in this region.
There are two reasons that size is significant. First, 35% of our congregation is military.
When a service person is deployed elsewhere for 3, 6, or even 12 months, our church
supports the family that remains. We have a well-organized TDY committee that stays in
regular communication with the family, checking on their unique needs. We also send a
care package to the deployed personnel with CD's of our church services. Second, when I
was ordained 25 years ago the Lord confirmed in my wife's heart as well as my own that
we would focus on serving the military in ministry. From 1980 until the present, our
mission with the great people at Cannon Air Force Base has only grown in expression.
There are numerous military reasons to keep Cannon, but I want to give you some
relational, spiritual and emotional ones to add to your recommendations.
Thank you for doing what's best for the people in our military!
KEEP CANNON OPEN!
