Dear Mr. Chairman:
I am pleased that Commissioner James Hill is slated to visit the Coastal Bend of Texas in
early July, 2005, to tour Naval Station Ingleside and Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi. We are
looking forward to the opportunity to show him first-hand the important role these facilities
fulfill in the ongoing War on Terror and in our national defense.
Mr. Chairman, I am requesting your support for extending the site visit to also include
Corpus Christi Army Depot and Naval Air Station-Kingsville. Viewing all of the facilities in the
South Texas Military Complex will offer a better understanding of their military value and their
necessary service to the nation that can't be recreated anywhere else. While these bases have
been considered individually in the Base Realignment and Closure process, the synergy created
by their close proximity and combination of assets exponentially increases the military value of
the Complex, as a whole. Since all of these facilities are in the immediate Corpus Christi area,
enlarging the scope of the visit to include the additional facilities will not require a great deal
more time and will provide invaluable insight for both BRAC Commissioners and staff who have
the opportunity to tour the area.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. I look forward to our continued efforts
to provide the military assets necessary to protect our nation and our dedicated warfighters.
With kindest regards, I amSincerely,
Solomo P. Ortiz
Member of Congress
