On February first, Maggie Glenn began serving as SLIS's first Coordinator of External
Affairs. In this capacity, she will oversee the creation of the Call Number, work with the
newly formed Alumni Society, and assist with the Annual TLA Dinner and SLIS Home-
coming activities. She will also serve as the staff member on the SLIS Web Site Commit-
tee. In making the announcement of the appointment, Dean Turner said, "The dedication of
these very scarce staff resources to this position is an indication of the value that we place
on our relationship with alumni and friends."
Maggie Glenn is no stranger to SLIS's doctoral students, having served as the Ph.D. Assis-
tant since August 1, 1996. She will continue this half-time position, moving to a full-time
status at SLIS, with the addition of her role as Coordinator of External Affairs. Maggie is
the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Carter, Jr. who have had a long affiliation with
the University of North Texas. She plans to finish her degree while working at SLIS and is
getting married in August.
Maggie's e-mail address is glenn@lis.admin.unt.edu, and her phone number is (817)
565-3565. She is a fine example of SLIS's customer-oriented philosophy, so call on her to
help you out.

Congratulations are in order. LeAnne Coffey, who has served as SLIS secretary since June 1992, took the national
Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) examination in November, along with 2,300 candidates. LeAnne was among
the few that passed the exam on the first attempt.
Aside from the professional achievement it represents, CPS recipients can receive up to 24 hours of college credit.
LeAnne will apply the credit hours toward a UNT bachelor's degree in Occupational Education with emphasis in
Office Technology.Facu
