Department of Library Service, North Texas
State College, Denton, Texas.
PRACTICE TEACHERS
NRtn Library Service students are doing their practice work with Miss Clarke
in the Laboratory School Library. They are: Flaleah Byrd, Gladewater; Moselle
Duncan, Gilmer; Eddy Hall, Crawford; Marcia Holcomb, Denton; Mary D. Balthrop,
Denton; Polly Stotts King, Denton; Louise Manosky, Overton; Bobbie Marquart,
Mertens; and Jackie Stanley, Dallas. Doris Koeninger, Oklaunion, and Janice
Bradburry, Henderson, are also working in the Laboratdry School Library. Our assis-
tants in the Library Service Department this semester are: Mary D. Balthrop, Denton;
Jean Bruce, Dallas; Carol Robertson, Brownwood; and Kaye Stoughton, Fort Worth.
ALPHA LAMBDA SIGMA
A called meeting of Alpha Lambda Sigma was held on Monday, February 18. Mary
Cowan, Mineola, was elected Vice-President to succeed Marty Hutcheson who received
her degree in January and is now in Victoria. The meeting was conducted by Mrs.
Wells, the president.
McCracken Club
A social was held on Tuesday evening, February 19, in the Library Service De-
partment. Refreshments consisted of hatchet cookies. Games were played and every-
one won bubble gum.
CHILDREN'S CATALOG
The eighth edition of the CHILDREN'S CATALOG is out nowi The H. W. Wilson
Company announces that the number of users has grown from 2,500 in 1930 to ten times
that number today.
The CATALOG lists 3,400 books with 6,91 analytical entries for 419 volumes
including plays, short stories, and collective biographies. An additional 172
titles are included in notes.
There are two new features: a section on "How to Use the CHILDREN'S CATALOG,"
and indication by the letter "k" of easy books suitable for pre-school or kinder-
garten use.
The CATALOG follows the same plan as the previous edition: Part I - an alpha-
betical list with author, title, and subject entries; Part II - a classified list
to serve as a buying guide and cataloging aid; Part III - a graded list indicating
books suitable for various reading levels.
