Steady State and Transient Thermal and Hydraulic Analysis of SM-2 Termination Report

One of 91 reports in the series: AEC Research and Development Report available on this site.

Description

Abstract: Thermal characteristics of the SM-2 core were analyzed at steady state and loss of flow conditions. For steady state operation, the steady state code STDY-3 was used. For transients during a loss of flow accident, ART-02, a one-dimensional code, was used. This analysis indicates the SM-2 core is safe from burnout under steady state operation at design power level (28 tMW) because (1) no nucleate boiling exists, and (2) the minimum burnout ratio is above 2.0. The core is safe from burnout under loss of flow transient because the minimum burnout ratio in the hottest element channel of 1. … continued below

Collections

This report is part of the following collections of related materials.

Technical Report Archive and Image Library

This selection of materials from the Technical Report Archive and Image Library (TRAIL) includes hard-to-find reports published by various government agencies. The technical publications contain reports, images, and technical descriptions of research performed for U.S. government agencies. Topics range from mining, desalination, and radiation to broader physics, biology, and chemistry studies. Some reports include maps, foldouts, blueprints, and other oversize materials.

TRAIL Microcard Collection

Imaged from microcard, these technical reports describe research performed for U.S. government agencies from the 1930s to the 1960s. The reports were provided by the Technical Report Archive and Image Library (TRAIL).
