Great interest was generated toward the Chemical applications for Ultra-
sonic waves, at our January meeting. Dr. Ernest Yeager, guest speaker,
pictured above at the speakers table (center) gave a most energetic informa-
tive explanation to the processing applications involving processing of chemicals,
analysis and control, basic studies of structure and kinetics. Dr. Yeager also
stated that when intense sound waves are transmitted through various types
of solutions, sonochemical reactions are produced; (reference January Retort.)student body. His talk was pitched to
fit "Space-age" ideas. The following are
serving as section heads in training assign-
ments: R. B. WII.LIAMS; R&D. T. S.
FARMER, research on catalytic cracking
and aromatizations; H. A. HoI.coMB,
development research on petrochemicals;
J. H. KARCHMER, analytical research, in-
cluding inorganic analysis, radiochem-
istry and quality control; and F. W.
LAMPE, exploratory research on fuels and
catalysts.
R. C. HALTER was chairman of the
session on Process Analysis Instrumenta-
tion, and W. B. FRANKLIN presided at the
Management and Economics Session at
the ISA Instrument-Automation Confer-
ence and Exhibit in Houston.
S. H. HASTINGS and family are tem-
porarily in the New York area with an
affiliate company.
R. L. HEINRICH, an enthusiastic sup-
porter of a Padre Island national park,
attended the Senate Interior and Insular
Affairs Committee's hearing at Corpus
Christi; he spoke there in favor of a
"Texas-size" park.

he and his family will return to our midst
this summer.
Petro-Tex Chemical Corp.
DR. L. MARSHALL WELCH has been
elected a Vice President Of Petro-Tex
Chemical Corporation, it was announced
today by Sidney T. Ellis, President. Dr.
Welch, as Vice President, Research De-
velopment, continues in charge of Petro-
Tex's research planning and activities at
the Houston and Princeton, New Jersey
research laboratories. He will also assume
responsibility for technical and research-
related development work in support of
the Company's expansion and develop-
ment porgram.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber
Mr. DON FRANCIS, former Technical
Superintendent and Plant Manager of
Goodyear's Houston synthetic rubber
plant and at present Plant Manager of
Goodyear's Atomic Energy plant, was a
recent visitor at the Houston plant. Mr.
Francis is a Chemical Engineering grad-
uate of Texas A and M.
Recent additions to the chemists' group
at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company,
