Changes in the concentration of uraiiumi reIquir-d to compensate for boric acid additions
to certain critical 1 O2 (NO1). solot ii s have been est ablished at OlINL.5 All assemblies
were essent ially un reflect ed 59-cu- diam spheres. For U'(93.2), init ially critical at H /25 U
- 1380, the system remained critical wh ii .55 atois of 2l' were added per ato
of lboron at concentrations up th ().23 g I: L. lIata also exist on poisoning by nitrate,
phosphate, and bisluith.

the Idaho Checical Processing Plant. Solution was cont ained ini a cylinder 24.2-cm-i.d. by
107-cm inside height.. Wat er reflect or extended to ihe top of t he vessel and was uiderneath
the tank. The observed critical conditions are summarized ill Table 22.
ORNL also reported experiments related to the design of dissolvers. In one series84,
aluninrnm-clad, uraiiiuni-bearing, fuel plates were latticed in water, il dilute
U(92.6)O2(N03)2 solution, and in uranyl-nitrate solution in which boron was also dis-
solved. i another >cries," V(62.4)(0 BeO fuel pins were latticed in water, in boron
solution, in dilute V(92.6)O0(NO3)2 solution, and iii water containing both boron and
uraivI nitrat e.
