A research program currently in progress at Brookhaven National Laboratory has produced quantitative data on the various factors which may influence the service life of Inconel 600 steam generator tubing. A basic model is presented to relate data produced using accelerated test methods to actual service conditions. The effects of temperature, environment, stress, strain and strain rate on a number of heats of mill annealed material and tubing with beneficial heat treatments are presented. The initiation and propagation stages of intergranular stress corrosion cracking are treated separately.
