Notes
“Spotlight on North Texas,” was a collaborative effort, between the University of North Texas Libraries (UNT) and the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI), to preserve and provide long‐term digital access to materials related to Denton County’s motion picture histories. Our primary goals were to (1) provide community members with free digital copies of their records, (2) provide sustainable longterm digital preservation of digitized materials, (3) and encourage engagement with public history through community outreach events. We focused on preserving materials related to Denton County’s motion picture histories including home movies, documents, and photographs. We accomplished our objectives by hosting two community digitization events, providing unrestricted access to materials on UNT’s Portal to Texas History and TAMI’s website, and by sharing materials with the community at the 2017 Thin Line Film Festival.

UNT Scholarly Works
Materials from the UNT community's research, creative, and scholarly activities and UNT's Open Access Repository. Access to some items in this collection may be restricted.
These grant materials were prepared for a project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities Common Heritage program to digitize, preserve, and provide access to community historical records. The award funded digitization of print and media items related to the motion picture history of Denton County and a lecture highlighting Denton’s film history and materials discovered during the program. For this grant, UNT served as the lead institution and collaborated with the Texas Archive of the Moving Image. The grant materials include a history of Denton County’s involvement in film production and distribution, digitization standards, and a work plan for the project. This proposal was funded for $11,840.
