PROCESS AND COMPONENT ENGINEERING AND DESIGN
Activities centered around design and procurement of components and hardware
for the PDU construction/modification downtime period between June 1 and
July 15. The major focus was on the following projects:
" Solids injection device installation - piping and vessel modifications to
secondary fines recycle system for hot recycle.
" Non-mechanical valve - preparatory work to modify the primary fines
recycle system for hot recycle by September.
The major areas of process and component engineering and design in support of
PDU operations were as follows:
" Final design and review of the PDU modifications required for hot recycle
of fines using the solids injection device under the secondary cyclone.
" Design and fabrication of a solids injection device on the PDU.
* Design, fabrication, and installation of piping and feed lines for fines
" Completion of modification/maintenance work on the PDU for the July test.
" Preparation of design documents, drawings, and specifications for the PDU
material handling system.
Vessel piping, feed line piping, fabrication drawings, and instrumentation
diagrams were completed. Long-lead hardware items were received, and almost
all of the components are scheduled for installation on the PDU by the end of
June. The design, procurement, and fabrication of a high pressure solids
injection device were completed during June. The arrangement drawing and
design review for the non-mechanical valve, which will be installed in
September, was completed during the month of June. In addition, design and
preliminary work for the 1800*F dipleg, fabrication of a high pressure (C02)
gas supply for solids injection device operation, and on-site fabrication of
retractory lined piping were completed.
The design work and drawings for the hot rotary feeder drive installation were
approximately 50 percent completed. A purchase order was placed for the
Reeves Motodrive Unit (estimated delivery in late July). However,
installation of the hot rotary feeder was deferred in favor of the
non-mechanical valve test series.
Purchase orders for hardware to implement testing on the PDU by July 15 were
placed. Some material has been received, and no delay is expected for the
remaining items. During June the following installation was completed:
