Solids Handling Equipment
Rotary feed valves used for transporting derylic material were upgraded. The
inside surfaces of the housings were machined and sleeved with case-hardened
material to minimize erosion wear.
Fines Recycle Modifications
Ports were installed on the coaxial solids feed line and on the side of the
fluidized bed for insertion of special fines recycle components to be
installed later in September.
The material transfer cyclone, which separates the coarse acrylic withdrawn
from the "ash" discharge port, was repaired. The barrel section of the
cyclone was patch welded to seal leaks caused by erosion.
Tracer Gas System
" The carbon dioxide tracer gas supply system was upgraded. A 12-ton
storage unit equipped with a refrigeration coil was installed to minimize
" Two rear entry ports were installed on the model in an effort to sample
tracer gas concentrations in the emulsion phase diametrically opposite
the semicylindrical jet opening.
" Additional tracer gas analyzers were installed to permit simultaneous
measurement of tracer concentration at eight locations in the system.
* New acrylic bed material was procured and loaded with the CFSF storage
system. The old material had undergone attrition after several months of
use and also was contaminated with the sand used in earlier char-ash
0 ThP enmputer data acquisition system was upgraded. The software was
converted to FORTRAN to improve system efficiency and additional
measurement points were added.
WORK FORECAST FOR NEXT QUARTER:
* Perform TP-M007-1, a 10-inch diameter air tube shakedown test
* Perform TP-M007-2, a 10-inch air tube jet penetration, bubble diameter,
bubble frequency, and bubble velocity test
0 Perform TP-M007-3, a 10-inch air tube C02 tracer gas test
Here’s what’s next.
