4.3 ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
During TP-032-1 samples of product gas were passed through four different
scrubbing solutions: methylene chloride, dilute sulfuric acid solution,
dilute sodium hydroxide solution, and distilled water. The methylene chloride
scrubbing solution was analyzed for 78 EPA-priority organic pollutants. All
pollutants were below detection limit, indicating their nonexistence in the
product gas. Table 4-2 lists the analyses sought from the remaining scrubbing
Chemical analysis of the samples has been completed. The results are being
examined for measurement inaccuracies and internal consistency. The final
results from the environmental sampling campaign will be reported in the next
quarterly progress report.
4.4 FINES RECYCLE
Three steady state test periods during PDU test TP-032-1 yielded fines
elutriation data using Upper Freeport coal in the non-recycle mode. Table 4-3
reports the relative carry-over rates obtained, expressed as fines
carry-over/load (lb/lb), and the superficial freeboard velocities. The
variation of fines elutriation with freeboard velocity can be discerned from
this data; fines carry-over is seen to vary with the 2.5 power of velocity.
Analysis of per pass consumption data from TP-032-1 and 032-2 is under way and
results will be reported in the next quarterly progress report.
