Description

Absorption experiments have been performed on electron-beam pumped rare gases (argon and krypton) as a function of pump power using the frequency-doubled output of a tunable dye laser at 248.4 nm and 257.3 nm. Energy deposition into the gas was varied by attenuating the electron beam with one or two stainless steel screens and by filling the gas chamber with different rare gas densities. The results from two energy deposition diagnostics were compared, and found to agree within 20%.
