Thanks for your assistance yesterday in planning our upcoming video session in the
DMA with the class from Plano. I would like to give you specific dates and times and
put you in touch with the art supervisor in Plano, who will be able to provide you with
As I mentioned on the phone, the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual
Arts works with five art museums and six school districts in the Dallas/Fort Worth
area to implement instruction of discipline-based art education into the general
curriculum of elementary schools. We primarily provide staff development and training
through a two-week summer institute and other sessions throughout the school year.
I've enclosed one of our brochures for you and can send you a packet of information if
you would like to know more. At the DMA we work mostly with Gail Davitt and Aileen
Horan, since they deal with programs for children.
The date planned for the video at the DMA is March 31, at 10:00, with a second grade
class from Christie Elementary in Plano. We're first filming the same class in the
school with a joint lesson taught by both the classroom teacher and the art specialist.
The museum experience will follow. These two video segments will be part of a joint
Texas/Nebraska teleworkshop that will be broadcast to 19 states on October 7 and 21
on the SERC educational network. I have asked Lynda Alford, art supervisor for
Plano schools to get in touch with you - she can answer any specific questions you
may have about content. As far as I know, the class has already been scheduled for
the museum. The classroom teacher is Kim Gill and the art specialist is Ruth Tice.
We would also like to plan a similar, second video session in the museum with a high
school class. Lynda can tell you more about this, but I believe that visit is scheduled
for April 15 at 10:00.
Thanks for your help. If you have any questions, please call. We look forward to
working with you and the DMA.
