One of Man's Best Friends, among the gf breeds
If man's best fried is the Saint Bernard; A-.large
aid shaggy dog with a heart of gold, and usually, a
keg of brandy around his neck. Today, about 20 Saint
Bernard owners in the Fort Worth-Dallas area, gathered
at F rt W rth's Trinity Park to gloat over their far-
sightedness in owning one of the dogs.
The dogs are named after good Saint Bernard, a medieval
hotel owner and first aid man in the Swiss Alps. He
got tired of going out in the freezing cold to rescue
travelers, so he rained his dogs to do it for him,
Those that could be truste&, were allowed to carry kegs
of brandy to help the lost traveler while away the time
until the other dog had led Saint Bernard to him.
Mtssigg around in heavy snow called for a big dog, and
Saint Bernards are that. They can weigh up to 175 pounds
anddown about 4 pounds of meat a day. A 175 pound dog
can be somewhat of a problem on a leash.
