Abstract: Social Networking Sites (SNS) are incredibly popular networks among the masses, to share information, ideas, videos, images etc. SNS allow users from various regions, communities and cultures to connect with each other. A number of SNS are available to the users through the Internet. This study aims to find out the level of awareness and use of four SNS namely; (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and MySpace) among LIS professional’s in universities of the Punjab province. It also explores the purpose of use, problems encountered while using these SNS and the impact of these SNS on library services. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the target LIS professionals. Findings of the study revealed that a majority of the LIS professionals were members of Facebook followed by Twitter, Pinterest, and MySpace, respectively. Moreover, the LIS professionals mostly used SNS for following purposes: finding communities of their interest, sharing ideas and thoughts with others, promotion of library services, news and events, sharing of photos, videos and posts, chatting with friends, family and colleagues, searching for resources not available. Some of the problems encountered by the LIS professionals while using these networks were identified as follows: shortfall of electricity, non-availability of (UPS), lack of IT skills, security and privacy and, sharing of unnecessary posts.
