THORIATED TUNGSTEN COMPONENTS
This specification covers requirements for vapor deposited, thoriated
tungsten components, designated as follows:
30103-1 Vapor deposited thoriated tungsten cups
2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS
2.1 The following documents, of the issue in effect on the date of in-
vitation for bids, shall form a part of this specification to the extent
2.2 Copies of ASTM standards may be secured from American Society for
Testing and Materials, 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
3.1 MANUFACTURER'S PROPOSED PROCESSING: A written description of the
complete manufacturing process, including subcontracted work, shall be
submitted to the purchaser for approval prior to starting work. The
purchaser's approval shall be required in event of any change in the
process description originally approved prior to making the change. The
description shall include the size and type of the furnace to be used,
gas components, mandrel material and other processing details which the
manufacturer deems necessary to assure a uniform product.
3.2 PROCESS: The thoriated tungsten cups shall be produced by vapor
deposition from gaseous phases of thorium and tungsten on to molybdenum
substrates as a temperature of 1120OF + 450.
3.3 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: The chemical composition of the cups shall con-
form to the following requirements:
