Figure 19. R-1 CVD Thoriated Tungsten Cup
The threads and inside envelope of these crucible-type cups were deposited to the size and
ultra-high finish required. The only machining necessary was facing the cup to length, as
the OD was also deposited to dimensional requirements of the drawing. No other machining,
hand polishing, or blending was required. The outside finish was a typical as-deposited dull
matte gray, which is satisfactory for this application.
