4. Test Specimen Electrical Resistance Measurement Error Analysis
Figure II-20 is the electrical resistance measurement schematic.
a. System Component Information
The following components will be used:
(1) Power supply - Harrison Labs Model 859A or 865C or equiva-
lent.
(2) Digital Volt Meter (DVM) - NLS Model M24 or equivalent.
(3) Resistor, ohmite, 10-Ohm wire-wound power resistor (100 W).
Resistance will be determined to + 0.006 Ohms in Lab.
(4) Leadwire - Raychem TRC 20 (1) STIR 0-0 #20 AWG shielded
TC grade copper.
(5) Potentiometer - Leeds and Northrup, type K-3
b. Experiment Procedure
The technique which will be used to determine the specimen
electrical resistance is as follows:
(1) The power supply output will be adjusted until the retic
V/R indicates a current (I) of 500 milli-amperes is flowing in the resistor (R).
(2) The voltage (E) across the specimen resulting from the
current (I) will be measured with a potentiometer so that negligible current is
shunted through the measuring circuit.
(3) The electrical resistance of the specimen will be computed
from the relationship Rs E/I.33
