fall in the range of $7 to $27/kw(e), whereas pressure-relief containment
costs may be as low as $2 to $3/kw(e).
126.96.36.199 Site Costs
1. Exclusion Area Costs. With the nuclear plant siting criteria
given in the AEC cost evaluation guide34 as a basis, it is found that the
cost of the site ranges from $5/kw(e) for 40-Mw(e) plants down to $l/kw(e)
for 400-Mw(e) plants. Thus site costs constitute about 0.5 to 1% of the
total plant costs and are a relatively unimportant addition to total power
costs. However, potential increases in site costs where large exclusion
distances would possibly be required for large plants could make this item
become a significant factor in nuclear safety costs.
2. Costs of Remote Location. Most conventionally fueled power
plants are located as close as practical to the center of load density.
