Scrape-off profiles and effects of limiter pumping in Tore Supra

Description: A one dimensional plasma scrape-off model was used to simulate Tore Supra discharges which are limited by various combinations of the pumped and inner limiters. Scrape-off profiles of the electron density and temperature, ion temperature, and neutral density are given. For each case, various fractions of the ion flux to the neutralizers were assumed to be pumped. Modifications of the scrap-off profiles caused by pumping are predicted. Pumping efficiencies are calculated including the effects of… more

Ceramic decomposition under irradiation, 1987

Description: Our quantitative determinations of the decomposition of thin film and bulk ceramic materials during electron microscopy has shown that the radiation damage effect is a complex one depending dielectric and thermochemical properties. In low melting temperature glasses, for example, much of the activity is due to field enhanced diffusion of low atomic weight species. This is particularly true of bulk specimens and for the case of binary soda-borosilicate glass the sodium depletion in the SEM can b… more

Bioassay Data and a Retention-Excretion Model for Systemic Plutonium

Description: The estimation of systemic burdens from urinalyses has been the most common and useful method of quantifying occupational exposures to plutonium. Problems arise in using this technique, however, because of inadequate modeling of human retention, translocation, and excretion of this element. Present methods for estimating the systemic burden from urinalyses were derived to a large extent from patterns observed in the first few months after exposure, but there is now evidence that these same patt… more

PINEX (Pinhold Neutron Experiment) fluor characteristics

Description: This report will describe recent experiments to characterize four fluors: BC-400, 408, 422, 430. Each fluor sample was 0.5 cm thick commensurate with our standard Electronic Pinhole Neutron Experiment (EL-PINEX) fluors. The important results are that the neutron-gamma sensitivity ratios did not change significantly, although the absolute gamma and neutron sensitivities decreased. 6 figs., 4 tabs.

Impedance camera: a system for determining the spatial variation of electrical conductivity

Description: A data collection and data interpretation method is presented for predicting, from measurements made on the periphery of the core sample, the electrical conductivity distribution within core samples. This method uses an array of electrodes on the periphery to probe through the core sample. Surprisingly accurate detail can be seen in the estimated conductivity distribution. This method has been demonstrated using synthetic examples modeled and analyzed on a computer. Extensions of the procedure … more
