Aesthetic and Technical Analysis on Soar!

Description: Soar! is a musical composition written for wind ensemble and computer music. The total duration of the work is approximately 10 minutes. Flocking behavior of migratory birds serves as the most prominent influence on the imagery and local structure of the composition. Rhapsodie parisienne

Description: Recording of Nicolas VĂ©rin's Rhapsodie parisienne. This work uses texts taken from "Spleen de Paris" by Charles Baudelaire. The reciter is the guide is the base of the piece and the speech: is hammered, stretched, stopped by rhythms based on a pulsation, and synthetic sounds. Translated antagonisms reflect contrast: presence/absence, natural/artificial, melodic/noise, near/distant, as well as by contrasts of style.

Description: Recording of Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux's Miroirs. This work identifies the problem of togetherness with the coexistence of the two sound sources, mainly using as basic material a harpsichord score previously recorded and subsequently subjected to various electroacoustic treatments. Sotto pressione

Description: Recording of Wolfgang Motz's Sotto pressione. It is for two oboes and computer sounds. There is the use of multiphonics and unusual tone colors, which requires different fingerings to produce the same pitches. Combining oboe and FM synthesis with the sue of a common pitch system allowed for the generation of three different oboes timbres. AM synthesis is also utilized towards the end of the piece for the notes A, B flat, and b; which are sustained.

The Nagual

Description: Recording of Mesias Maiguashca's The Nagual. This work is inspired by the first four books by Carlos Casta–eda on the practice of magic among the Yaqui Indians in Mexico. The technical starting point of the cycle was a metal construction. Swim, Swam

Description: Recording of Kiyoshi Furukawa's Swim, Swam. This work is for acoustic instruments and electronics. There is lot of variety on how the instruments interact with the electronics. The piece begins very harmony focused and timeless, eventually the clarinet and electronics begin to grow with more movement and communication; sometimes in agreement, unison, or independent. There is also a manipulated voice repeating the pattern continuously, however, the electronics are changing the tone.

Singing boxes

Description: Recording of Andrew May's Singing boxes. This piece is a work for violin and tape, written at and according to the performer's request. All the tape sounds are processed samples of violin sounds; open string, bowed, pizzicato, col legno, and harmonics. Regarding the title, the loudspeaker and the violin body are both boxes which attempt to sing. The works presents a struggle by each to make its own particular voice heard.

Description: Recording of Daniel Paul Rodger's The temptations of St. Poob and the revelations of Dionysus. This piece has a character "St. Poob," who is a real-time electro-acoustic manifestation of life-forces. Any endeavor to remove the tarnish would have sentenced St. Poob to undeserved crucifixion. The recording is a densely packed sound atmosphere with electronic bells and whistles for tape.

Magna Sin

Description: Recording of Gabriela Ortiz's Magna Sin. This piece consists of of five rhythmic-melodic section. The tape functions as any other instrument and requires synchronization with the percussionist. The main components are tape, steel drum, flute multiphones, metal objects, guitar strokes, other percussion instruments, and all of these sounds are electronically manipulated.

Cuchillos

Description: Recording of Juan Reyes's Cuchillos.This piece is about the Cacica's and the significance of knife sharpening. The piece takes uses sound produced by the sharpening of the knives and some Doppler effects. Towards the end, it becomes more tonal and uses the sound of the rocks. Cuchillos is a work for tape, computer with concrete sound, and an FM synthesizer.

Description: Recording of Robin Minard's Ré. This piece is for clarinet and tape. The title Ré refers to the lowest sounding note of the clarinet range (about 147).
