Cold-formed Steel Framed Shear Wall Sheathed with Corrugated Sheet Steel

Description: Incombustibility is one important advantage of the sheet steel sheathed shear wall over wood panel sheathed shear wall. Compared to shear wall sheathed with plywood and OSB panel, shear wall sheathed with flat sheet steel behaved lower shear strength. Although shear wall sheathed with corrugated sheet steel exhibited high nominal strength and high stiffness, the shear wall usually behaved lower ductility resulting from brittle failure at the connection between the sheathing to frames. Effects of Angulation and Proximity of Components in A Series

Description: I proposed that two factors could be adjusted in a series of rings in order to achieve total control of implied movement: Proximity and angulation of components. Through careful adjustment of these two factors, I theorized that the implied motion in a ring series could be accelerated, slowed, or omitted altogether.

Statistical Study of Overstressing in Steel

Description: Note presenting a study of the effect of overstressing on the fatigue properties of SAE 4340 steel. The effect of microstructure on the susceptibility to reduction in fatigue life due to cycles of overstress was investigated. Results regarding the effect of microstructure on overstressing damage, influence of criterion of failure on fatigue life, and effect of overstressing on endurance-limit statistics are provided.

Mist and Microstructure Characterization in End Milling Aisi 1018 Steel Using Microlubrication

Description: Flood cooling is primarily used to cool and lubricate the cutting tool and workpiece interface during a machining process. But the adverse health effects caused by the use of flood coolants are drawing manufacturers' attention to develop methods for controlling occupational exposure to cutting fluids. Microlubrication serves as an alternative to flood cooling by reducing the volume of cutting fluid used in the machining process. Microlubrication minimizes the exposure of metal working fluids to… more

Exploring the Synergistic Effects of MXene-based Nanocomposites for Superlubricity and Friction/Wear Reduction on Rough Steel Surfaces

Description: The aim of this thesis is to advance the field of solid lubrication science by developing coatings that provide reliable performance in ambient conditions, work on rough surfaces, and are amenable to industrial size and design complexities. Two different coating systems, Ti3C2Tx-MoS2 and Ti3C2Tx-Graphene Oxide blends, were studied in this work. The Ti3C2Tx-MoS2 nanocomposites were spray-coated onto rough 52100-grade steel surfaces, and their tribological performance was evaluated in a ball-on-d… more

Separation of a Shock Wave Into Elastic and Plastic Waves, and Measurement of the Pressure of the Elastic Wave

Description: "Hydrodynamic theory predicts that if a shock wave in a metal is not too strong it will separate into two waves." This report discusses a modification of the contactor technique to determine the velocities of the two waves simultaneously for samples of steel and tungsten alloy.
